In the atmosphere of international cultural exchange since the end of the cold war, the question of understanding American culture was raised, especially after the United States lifted the embargo (1994). In our country, there is a rich treasure trove of writings in Vietnamese about Asian cultures - especially about China, India - and Eastern European countries. As for Western cultures, we know the French best. For American culture, especially north of the 17th parallel, we have not had a book that presents it in a profound and systematic way. While waiting for such a scholarly and complete work, we would like to make a modest contribution to the matter. This book begins with two questions: “Is there an American culture? If so, what's the good and bad about it?" We asked these two questions to more than a dozen friends in America (white, black, Indian), UK, France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg; Answers are printed as-is, without comments, as a prelude to the issue. The book is a collection of impressions, notes, research articles, reports, interviews, dialogues, translations of poetry and prose, summaries of works, including statistics and synopsis, - most of the author's work. author, but also the contributions of American friends and other foreigners, some articles of the international press. This book is a collection of American Cultural Profiles. Because it is a record, there is no need to repeat or contradict. We respect the freedom of choice of our readers.
